What is Student Debt Relief?
Student debt relief refers to the process of canceling or forgiving student loan debt for borrowers who were defrauded by their colleges or universities. This can include loans that were taken out to attend schools that made false promises or engaged in other deceptive practices.
Who is Eligible for Debt Relief?
Recently, it was announced that over 450,000 student loan borrowers are eligible for debt relief due to fraud. These borrowers will have their loans erased, providing much-needed financial relief. Additionally, another 170,000 borrowers will also see their student loan debt forgiven.
How Does Debt Relief Work?
The debt relief process typically involves the US Department of Education reviewing claims from borrowers who believe they were defrauded by their schools. If the claims are approved, the Department of Education will cancel the borrower's loans, and they will no longer be responsible for repaying them.
